Does anybody know of a really easy yet delicious pad thai recipe?

My family is like addicted to it but the place we get it at isnt that close so we cant have it that often. I've tried going to the store and getting those pad thai packets with the powder to make the sauce but it doesnt taste at all like the real thing. Could you also add what kind of noodles are the best to use because the ones we used were really sticky and weird tasting. I dont need a really extravagant recipe, Just something that is delicious yet simple.

Oh and any like bottled pad-thai sauce that tastes authentic would also work.Does anybody know of a really easy yet delicious pad thai recipe?

This is going to sound like a cop-out, but I know that Pad Thai is a really tricky dish to make well. It takes a lot of finesse and excellent wok skills to get the noodles the right texture. Otherwise they are soggy and/or sticky. It takes a lot of practice.

I had a friend who graduated culinary school and was an accomlished cook. She had to try dozens of times before she had something that was reasonably acceptable.

I don't think there is any "really easy" way to make a decent pad thai. You may have to settle for wetter thai noodle dishes that have some of the same flavors (like the boxed mixes)

Kid-friendly recipes for new nanny?

I start a new live-in nanny position next week for two young girls, 4 %26amp; 7, and I need some fairly simple recipes for the family that the girls might even be able to help a little bit with. I've been told they aren't picky eaters, and even love their vegetables and spicy food, as their parents are Mongolian and Thai...so just about anything will do. Any suggestions?Kid-friendly recipes for new nanny?

  • Tasty but simple recipes for King Prawns?

I have some raw king prawns in the freezer, I would usually use Lloyd Grossman sauce and make a Thai Green curry.

I fancy something different though so any tried and tested recipe suggestions would be much appreciated!

I do enjoy cooking but don't really like to attempt anything overly complicated so please no super long ingredients lists!

Ideally I'm looking to make a quick(ish) evening meal for a week day.

    Thank you!

    Garlic butter. Simple as that
    My Mum LOVES making this!

Make sure all the prawns are ready to eat, then make some noodles, chop up whatever veg. you like e.g. red peppers, onion, mushrooms, whatever you like! Stir fry this, (heat up a wok, splash of oil, put vegetables in,) and put the noodles in a bowl when done, add vegetables and prawns, mix in, add a bit of soy sauce, and maybe a bit of black pepper, and enjoy!

Try this one... (You can sub a different chili if you prefer)

    Thai Chicken Wings

    INGREDIENTS

    5 pounds frozen chicken wings

    1 cup chicken broth

    1/2 cup white sugar

    1/4 cup fish sauce

    1/4 cup crushed garlic

1/4 cup finely chopped jalapeno chile peppers

    2 tablespoons cornstarch

    3 teaspoons paprika

    1 tablespoon olive oil

    DIRECTIONS

    Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).

Place chicken wings on a non-greased cookie sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes to 1 hour, turning once, until golden brown. Move to serving dish/platter.

In a medium skillet saute garlic and jalapeno peppers in olive oil until soft. Add chicken broth, fish sauce, paprika and sugar. Add cornstarch and let thicken. Stir all together and pour over crispy chicken wings. Enjoy

I also found this, you may want to use the sauce:

Spicy Thai BBQ Shrimp , very close in taste to Houlihans

    3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

    1 tablespoon soy sauce

    1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

    2 cloves garlic, minced

    1 tablespoon brown sugar

    2 teaspoons curry paste

1 pound medium shrimp - peeled and deveined

    DIRECTIONS

In a shallow dish or resealable bag, mix together the lemon juice, soy sauce, mustard, garlic, brown sugar and curry paste. Add shrimp, and seal or cover. Marinate in the refrigerator for 1 hour.

Preheat a grill for high heat. When the grill is hot, lightly oil the grate. Thread the shrimp onto skewers, or place in a grill basket for easy handling. Transfer the marinade to a saucepan, and boil for a few minutes.

Grill shrimp for 3 minutes per side, or until opaque. Baste occasionally with the marinade.

    Thai ingredients?

I have a Thai recipe that uses Thai shallots and sour oranges, I have never seen these items (even in my Asian grocery store).

Do you know where I could find them or any substitutes? I have shallots but how are they Thai ones different??? Also, I have lemons %26amp; limes but how are sour oranges different?Thai ingredients?
Thai shallots are the same as Asian Shallots:

Asian Shallots are called 'bawang merah kecil' (small red onions) in Bahasa Melayu, an official language of Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, and Singapore, and "hom" (喔腑喔?- literally "fragrant") in Thai. In South East Asian cuisines, such as Thai, Malaysian and Indonesian cuisines, both shallots and garlic ('bawang putih', white onions) are very often used as elementary spices. Raw shallot can also accompany cucumbers when pickled in mild vinegar solution. It is also often chopped finely, then fried until golden brown, resulting in tiny crispy shallot chips called 'bawang goreng' (fried onions)in Indonesian language, which can be bought ready-made from groceries and supermarkets. It enhances the flavor of many South East Asian dishes, such as fried rice variants. In Indonesia, sometimes it is made into pickle which is usually added in variable kinds of traditional food. Its sourness increases one's appetite.

It is widely used in the southern part of India. It is called Sambar Vengayam in Tamil and Kochulli in Malayalam and is used in Sambar (a type of curry) and different types of kuzhambu(curry).

As a substitute, use a small red onion along with 1-2 American shallots.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shallot

    **************************************鈥?br>
A species of multiple uses, the sour orange (Citrus aurantium, L.), is also known as bitter, bigarade, or Seville orange. In Spanish-speaking areas it may be called naranja 谩cida, naranja agria, or naranja amarga. In Arabia, it is naranji; in Italy, melangolo; in India, khatta; in Samoa, moli, in Guam, soap orange.

    http://www.hort.purdue.edu/newcrop/morto鈥?/a>

As a substitute use 1 lime and 1/2 an American orange.Thai ingredients?
If you cannot find Thai shallots then you may need to use more of the kind we have here. They are stronger in flavor. The article belwo says US Thai restaurants often use onions instead.

for the sour orange you probably need to add a lot of lime juice to a little orange juice. It is not going to be the same but should work as a substitute.
