Is there any equivalent ingredient to coconut milk?

Simply put, I want to try some new Thai recipes, but several call for coconut milk. I hate the smell and taste of coconut with a passion, so is there an alternative? What does it do-aside from flavour- and could I use normal milk? Or is there some sort of other nut-based liquid that does the job?Is there any equivalent ingredient to coconut milk?
Well

NO, it is what it is.

For many if not most of the recipes that I have made, the coconut and/or coconut milk flavor is so melded into the dish that it is not a strong flavor in itself.

Good Thai as well as Indian recipes should be a balance of flavors.

However, for some recipes you might substitute condensed milk and/or sweetened condensed milk. Or a blend of coconut milk with yogurt or creme fresche'.

Greek style yogurt is pretty good in koftas as well as vindaloos.

Plain yogurt is a really big stretch, but will suffice.

Note, however, you will have to adjust all of the spices and herbs accordingly, as the sweetness will definitely be affected. More than likely the texture also.

But if you are really that opposed to trying coconut milk, so be it.Is there any equivalent ingredient to coconut milk?
Evaporated milk is also known to be one of the best coconut milk substitute. Mix 录 cup of evaporated milk with 戮 cup of water and use as a substitute for coconut milk. This substitute works best in chicken curry recipes

Yogurt can also be used as a substitute for coconut milk. To make, use one cup yogurt and add 1 tsp. coconut extract to it and mix well. You can also use one cup evaporated skim milk instead of yogurt and add 1 tsp. coconut extract to it. Both yogurt and evaporated skin milk will give a thick consistency to the recipe. Use these in same amount as coconut milk is to be used.

Substitute for coconut milk;

For one cup coconut milk substitute 3 tablespoons coconut cream with low-fat milk to equal 1 cup or use 1 cup whole milk plus 1 teaspoon coconut flavoring.

hope this helps .
